The Community Health Worker (CHW) is an rapidly developing member of the health care team. We are excited to introduce our CHW course to the community!
Also known as a Community Health Representative (CHR) or a Promotorés, Community health workers provide services such as basic health screenings, promote wellness by helping people adopt healthy behaviors, and implement a wide range of programs that promote good mental and physical health. CHWs advocate for people who may have limited access to health resources and social services.
EMC 170 is an online course that will award a certificate in CHW upon successful completion. Students will spend a semester learning about the roles and responsibilities of CHWs, participate in discussions and shadow CHWs who are working in their clinical and field settings.
Classes begin in the Spring and Fall. Check the SRJC schedule of classes for course availability. Registration assistance and financial aid are available, along with scholarships.
Tribal community members are encouraged to take the course.
